Brilliant Nurse Spotlight: Meet Yesenia

Stories of real nurses give us inspiration to do what we do. These stories come straight from our community of compassionate nurses and give us a look at the human being behind the scrubs.

Yesenia M., RN has been a nurse in Arizona for five years. She spends her free time giving hugs and treats to her sweet Basset Hound Pitbull mix, Stubbs, and her two little chihuahuas. Yesenia tells us, “My sassy girl Mimi and energetic and loving Lucas are loved and spoiled silly!”

Yesenia shares a little bit more about her life and her nursing journey.

What inspired you to become a nurse?

I was really interested in human anatomy courses but wanted to join a field where I could take care of others, where I could offer compassionate care in a person’s most difficult time of need. Nursing has the beautiful side of serving the community while also applying critical thinking skills and knowledge of the human body.

What causes are you passionate about?

I think so many causes are highly important. Those that focus on providing care whether that be medical, physical, or psychosocial support to veterans are amazing. Anything related to the care of animals is a great one too!

What are a few tips you would share with someone entering a career in nursing?

I would tell someone entering the field that yes there are difficult days but the good ones; the ones where you get to see your patient leave the hospital and improve are so rewarding. It can seem overwhelming at first but you’ll learn to develop your own style of accomplishing tasks, strengthen skills and you will impress yourself by how much you will learn in this never ending learning field. With that said, ask questions, always ask if you are uncertain about something!

What is an interesting fact about you?

Although we live in a state with some of the hottest summers… I never learned how to swim!

Thank you for sharing your story with us, Yesenia!
